I have a slightly higher than normal (female) testosterone level and a mass in my uterus. What does this mean? My testosterone level was 85. And I am waiting for my doctor to read the radiologists report from my ultrasound where they found the mass in my uterus. This will be a long weekend of waiting. I can call his office on Monday. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Drew C replied: "the mass is a testacle. you are a hermaphradite"

Jay M replied: "If you get pregnant your baby will be gay. I am not even trying to be funny, or a jerk."

jme19914fun replied: "it could be as simple as a cyst (which is harmless) or as terrible as cancer (unlikely) or as strange as an underdeveloped penis (yes, it can happen but is VEEERY unliklely). odds are that it's some kind of cyst or tumor. cysts just go away on their own, and tumors can be removed. dont worry! you are probably fine. and hey, maybe you're pregnant......(maybe some kind of rare type of pregnancy)"

kuz replied: "this is a clear sign that you are pregnant with an ALIEN FETUS! they won't tell you you must act quickly do this 1."

stevesgirlforever replied: "I can't believe people are saying some of the things they are saying to you. You are very right to be scared. I know your feeling I had some test come back abnormal not long ago and am really scared myself now because the doctors have not been able to fix my problem. On the 12th of Aug I go into the hospital for a hysterectomy and I am so scared. Not really for me so much as for my family what will they do without me??? I am the only driver in my family for my husband has epalespy and can't drive and my son is not old enough yet so I find myself scared that I won't have time to heal before life demands too much from me. I know I probably not been much help but I am not sure what to say it might be. I know you are wondering if it is cancerous that was my first fear. I can't say yes or not but I can say if it is the success rate in treating it is very good. Most woman come out with flying colors if found early enough... Good luck and I wish you well!! I will pray for you..."

sarbear442 replied: "well it could be a Endometrial polyp...idk thats what it said on some website. this is what they are i guess"

ms_Lila replied: "No matter what anybody tells you I know you are going to worry about it no matter what - try not to think the absolute worst though. Increased testosterone can be an indicator of a condition called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) which is fairly common. It means that the hormones are not balanced and because of the imbalance women do not ovulate and do not have a regular period. Fertility issues are almost a problem for these women. You didn't mention why the doctor was testing your testosterone levels and why you had a pelvic ultrasound and whether or not you have regular periods. Having a mass in your uterus doesn't mean the worse, there could be a reasonable explanation for it. Worrying needlessly is like paying interest on a loan you don't even have. Good luck to you."

Does anyone know whats the normal testosterone level for a normal, healthy female? women do hav low levels of testosterone thats why some r ,well more active (if ya know what i mean;)Because they have higher levels.

cyanne2ak replied: "75 and below."

Big fella replied: "Women do have testosterone, about 1/10th the amount men have - and testosterone can measured as both free and total womem make testosterone in the adrenal gland mostly and too a small extent ovaries a woman may have around 2-80 ng/ml free testosterone - it varies greatly and no more testosterone does not equal more butch! Interesting the amount varies through a woman's cycle and when she has more testosterone it does correlate with higher libido"

Normal range for female testosterone levels? I am a 31 year old female. Why do different labs quote different ranges as normal for female testosterone levels. My level is 0.63 ng/ml which is slightly elevated according to my lab, but I cam across values on the net which call .7 or even 0.9 normal..why the difference.

How could a person with a male genotype and normal testosterone levels be born looking like a female? How could a person with a male genotype and normal testosterone levels be born looking like a female? What are the possible mechanisms? If you could give me some answers on this, or some weblinks, I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

Eugene K replied: "In order to respond to testosterone a cell has to have a proper receptor protein. A mutation that decreases the level or activity of this protein will make a cell non-responsive. The result is that testosterone may be around, but the cell does not "know" about it. Hence, the development turns to feminine, as if testosterone was not there."

i am a female with above normal testosterone levels, and irregular periods. what can i do to fix it? i don't want to go on birth control. i went on yasmin and it made me gain weight and become fatigue/depressed. are there any alternatives?

Jessica R replied: "well birthcontrol would deff. fix your period, if you had just stuck with it the weight would have come off after 2-3 months. but you should probably talk to your doctor about taking estrogen supplements."

darling, don't lie to me. replied: "maybe try a different birth control."

Female Testosterone Level? I went for a pap smear last week and my Gynecologist just called me and said I have a higher testosterone level than normal. She said she can put me on birth control YAZ to help it regulate it, but I don't understand what she means when it is raised. What does this mean and how does this happen? She also said this is probably why I have abnormal menstrual cycles. What does all this mean?

Dannygirl replied: "It just means you make more testosterone than a normal female. it can mean a number of things. There's not much you can do, but eat healthy and exercise to balance levels, and birth control helps."

High Levels of testosterone (female)? Ok so I'm a female & My doctor recently told me I have high levels of testosterone,I understand that womens aren't supposed to but I also want to know is what are some of the symptoms, like I have little tiny hairs going up my tummy & inbetween my breasts,I also (sometimes) get really bad acne & I miss alot of my periods..are these the symptons??? another thing is that I get very horny! atleast 2 times a day & It usually just pops up almost like a suprize! lol but I just wish I could control it because I get very strong urges, are these most of the symptons you have when dealing with high testosterone? Oh & I'd also like to know being a female with high testosterone does it make it harder for you to fall pregnant? or prevent you from it??? because thats the thing that worries me the most & is there anything that I can take or get prescribed by a doctor to give me normal levels of testosterone?

gary s replied: "You need to be checked for tumors of the Adrenal,or Pituitary glands where it is made.My wife is never "In the Mood".I wish she had your condition."

elementoflife replied: "Yes there are drugs that can sort of 'suck up' the excess androgens in your body. They may not reduce the hair growth now that you have the thicker hair follicles in place but it'll help with balancing your hormones. Another thing that is often prescribed is Birth control (very specific birth control that can work with the other drugs). Of course you can't get pregnant while on BC but it'll probably help with acne and stuff. As for getting pregnant, I would suggest going to a naturopath when you are starting to get ready to have children - only if you are having problems with conceiving. Who knows, you may not have any problems! Oh, also, do you know why your hormones are off-kilter? Do you have polycystic ovaries? Did you at one time lose a great deal of weight, very quickly? Are you overweight? If you don't know why, I would talk to your doctor about what is causing the problem. Cheers"

mike pio replied: "yes the hairs and all that are normal symptoms. as far as brith comes it wont effect it because all girls are born with the amount of sex cells they will have.. they dont have to produce sex cells constantly like males"

Jordan K replied: "What I like about girls with acne, is you always know they get horny because they have testosterone in them, so it's kind of a give away they want to be sexually active or Masturbate. To answer your question about sudden strong urges, it's normal especially when you have Testosterone. Normally for me, sexual urges will hit around sometime at night or afternoon, and it always happens in a timely manner. That's a big reason why guys get so many urges and whatever, high testosterone. I'm a guy as well. While you might not have as much Testosterone as us guys, you still have enough to let you experience a little of what it's like to have it. Theres a lot of females out there who have much more Testosterone than other females, you just happen to be one that has more than the average. It will not affect your pregnancy,"

My female freind has level1.4 testosterone is that normal? what is the for notmal level? is there any sickness Behaviar, and how can she get tretment

Fraulein replied: "Are you depressed or fatigued? Have you lost weight for no discernible cause? Have you experienced a loss in sex drive? Have you suffered from muscle loss or the inability to grow muscle? Low testosterone levels, or hypogonadism, in both men and women may cause any, or all, of these symptoms. Your female friend needs to go see her doc. for treatment, they will give her testosterone in liquid or pill from. She will need to do a liver function test while taking this drug."

What does testosterone therapy do to a woman's body? Let's say your testosterone level is normal and you're female but your body produces NO estrogen on its own. You have no sex drive, and your petuitary gland is messed up. What would happen when your doctor decides to put you on testosterone? What should you expect? you are 23 and is already on estrogen therapy

Rosco replied: "DISCLAIMER: I am in no way sure about my answer! I think that you might expect an increase in the rate of body hair growth, perhaps a slighly increased sex drive and possibly a deepening of your voice - those are all educated guesses. What I would like to know is why a doc would prescribe testosterone if your levels are fine? Is it just to increase your sex drive?"

What are the effects on the female body when there is not enough estrogen in the growth phase? Does she not develop wide hips? Does she have more testosterone than normal? What are the effects of higher levels of testosterone in a female than normal? What exactly determines where the distribution of body fat takes place?

kelsa replied: "SOUNDS LIKE U NEED 2B STUDYING 4 A GYN. WIDE HIPS AREN'T DETERMINED BY ESTROGEN OR THE LACK THEREOF. THAT'S HEREDITARY SWEETNESS. BUT A SUBSTANTIAL LACK OF ESTROGEN CAN PRODUCE CONSIDERABLE FACIAL HAIRS/ LACK OF FULL BREAST DEVELOPMENT- WHICH IS STILL HEREDITARY, BUT IF BOMBSHELLS ARE IN YOUR FAMILY AND U GOT ESTROGEN DEFICIENCIES YOU MIGHT ONLY GET BASEBALLS"
